A.) Asphalt Shingles
The most common roof used in this area are asphalt shingles. Asphalt shingles are graded by 20,30,40, and 50 year warranties. There are several manufacturers of shingles with numerous styles and colors to choose from. Architectural asphalt shingles have a textured look and style.

B.) Clay or Terra-Cotta Roof
Clay or Terra-Cotta roof materials, better known as Italian or Spanish style roofing comes in many shapes. This type of roof comes in flat tiles, different shaped tiles, and the popular Spanish barrel-shaped. Tile roof materials are manufactured in many colors. Tile roofing is a heavy material that requires a much more heavy duty framing structure to carry the weight that is not required with asphalt shingle.

C.) Cedar Shakes and Shingles
Cedar Shakes & Shingles
One of the least used roofs of today is Cedar shakes and shingles. This roof is now only manufactured in fire retardant material. But is still outlawed in some jurisdictions of the Bay Area.
